In today’s culture, we are over run with concept.  We have come to expect nearly everything we look at to tell a story, make a statement, or divulge a hidden meaning.  We are in danger of forgetting how to simply look at something.  For me, painting is this practice.

I am less concerned with the subject of painting than I am with depicting that subject in a way that is exclusive to paint.  I enjoy each of the hundreds of minor decisions that go into making an image interesting under both both close scrutiny and at first glance.  If at any point the final product stirs emotions or relates to a deeper meaning, the image only gains strength.
